Day 9: Union Station, Los Angeles

Guy and I are going from LA to San Diego to have lunch with his mother and sister. We departed from Union Station, built in the 1930s, a combination of Mission Style and Art Deco architecture, with simple lines outside and wonderful decorative work and soaring ceilings inside.

Union Station was one of the most glamorous train stations in the country, frequented by movie stars taking the Santa Fe’s Super Chief to Chicago to connect with trains to New York. It’s now often seen in movies and ads, and is heavily used by Amtrak and commuter trains.

Here are a few photos. The inside shots were inspired by the album cover for Bonnie Raitt’s 1970s album “Takin’ My Time.” For more scenes and a good video, go to the Union Station website.
