Day 6: Bicycling in Oregon

Spent the morning bicycling in Portland, doing an 11-mile loop from downtown south along the west side of the Willamette River and back north along the Eastbank Esplanade with views of the downtown skyline. Gorgeous weather, nice ride.

Signage on the bike path was poor in places going south, but we met Jim from Sellwood and he guided us and gave us background about Portland and Oregon as we rode. Great guy, and his help was much appreciated.

Speaking of bicycling, in the afternoon at Portland's Union Station I met Megan from Portland (originally from New Berlin) who was taking her bike on the train. She and three friends were going to Klamath Falls in southern Oregon to do a six-day ride north to the top of the state on the mostly-gravel Outback Trail, camping along the way. Sounds like a challenging trip.
