Day 5: A Day’s Drive in Oregon

No train travel today. We rented a car and drove from Portland south to Salem, the state capital, and then over to the Pacific Coast.

Oregon's Capitol building is nice. Built in 1935 with an Art Deco design (one of only five Art Deco state capitols - the others are Alaska, Louisiana, Nebraska and North Dakota).

The Three Capes Scenic Route along the coast from Pacific City to Tillamook was spectacular, with views of broad beaches, rolling surf and majestic rock formations.
